Project Rescue
Project Rescue was started to rescue women from sexual slavery and provide a safe haven for their young daughters in Bombay, India. Now the organization runs eleven centers across India and the surrounding area. They have set a goal to “eradicate all forms of child exploitation.” The mission is multi-faceted and holistic in its work, offering not only physical safety, but the freedom that comes in following Jesus. First Assembly has committed to supporting Project Rescue’s many different programs under the direction of David and Beth Grant, which include:
- Homes of Hope – Safe houses for the women and children of the red-light district.
- Vocational Training – Training for skills such as tailoring, clothing design, jewelry making and cosmetology, which offers women formerly trapped in brothels a new way to support themselves and their family.
- After School Programs – Educational outreach to all the children of the red-light district.
- Night Care Centers – Similar to a traditional day care center for the children of women still working in brothels.
- HIV/Aids and Medical Clinics – Counseling and care for the female prostitutes of Bombay’s red-light district who have been infected with STDs and AIDS.
- Red Light District Churches – Congregations of women in the red-light district gathered to hear about the restoring power of Jesus.
We are currently working to fund the building of an entire Home of Hope this year, with the estimated cost being about $90,000. If you're interested in giving towards this goal, click here.
